Strategies for Focus and Attention

We all daydream, some more than others. Daydreaming is a worthy endeavor indeed, but not when we need to concentrate.

There are times in life when attention and concentration are crucial to the moment.

How can I improve my focus and attention?

First, focus and attention will be difficult to achieve without an established health and wellness routine. Read Find Balance With a Daily Wellness Routine for support to get started on general wellness.

Second, it is critical to know a little about yourself. Only when we understand more about ourselves and the specific reasons why it is hard for us, individually, to concentrate, can we begin to unravel how to improve focus and memory.

What are the causes of distraction?

Sources of distraction:

  • External distractions – noise, crowds, cramped conditions, temperature or weather conditions
  • Internal distractions – rumination on events out of our control – past or future, stress, rehearsing to-do lists or procrastination, critical inner voice, emotional upset
  • Biological factors – fatigue, hunger, dehydration, physical or mental health issues, brain chemistry, neurodiversity

Identify the one or two sources that alter your attention and focus most often and keep them in mind as we explore natural ways to increase focus and attention with behavior modifications, nutritional supplements, and high-quality, whole-plant, full-spectrum hemp and CBD products. Adapt these suggestions to meet your specific needs and keep in mind the causes of your distraction.

According to a 2015 clinical study on “How Concentration Sheilds Against Distraction”, the authors conclude that we are able to concentrate “because (a) undesired processing of the background is reduced and (b) the locus of attention becomes more steadfast.”

Simply put, science says that concentration protects us from our own distractions.

How do we improve focus and concentration?

Determine when you actually need to focus.

We can’t pay attention to detail at all times, that is impossible! There are times when a mind at rest or off in a daydream is not only acceptable but also desirable. Differentiate between the times when you must focus and the times when you can relax. There are products made from full-spectrum hemp (including compounds such as CBD) that help with focus, concentration, and memory, and also formulations that are specific to relaxation. Use Ahya’s Product Finder to determine which of Ahya’s Heirloom HempTM products support focus and relaxation.

Reduce distractions.

If you have determined that this is a time that requires focus, turn off notifications, find a quiet place to work, study, have that conversation, or learn a new skill. Remove all screens, communicate your needs and schedule to those around you, and ask for help to keep distractions at bay. Increase your chances of success with daily use of cannabinoid products (such as CBD) that support the endocannabinoid system (ECS) and promote overall health and wellness. Help your brain clarify what is and isn’t a distraction and take steps to eliminate or minimize distractions.

Challenge your brain.

Easy tasks or activities don’t hold our attention and this allows the mind to wander. Mind-wandering can become a habit. New and difficult activities or intentional brain training push the mind to focus and build pathways toward concentration.* Understand how hemp products that contain CBD work by studying the ECS and refining your product intake for maximum brain power. Cannabinol (CBD) products deliver blood flow when and where your brain needs it when the brain is growing into a challenge.*

Find what works for you.

Use or develop tools or systems for memory like calendars and alerts. Contain “To-Do” lists and ideas so that they aren’t swimming in your brain all the time. Utilize visual reminders to keep you on track. Be purposeful when it’s time to concentrate, consider transition periods between activities that require concentration and those that do not. Have “concentration only” spaces where your brain picks up on these cues to know it’s time to concentrate. Add meditation, mindfulness, and breathing exercises to maximize your use of these tools and put your brain at ease so that focus and attention come more naturally. Prioritize a product made from whole-plant full-spectrum hemp, including cannabidiol (CBD), that is easy to use, accessible when you need it, and delivers a dosage that is easy to measure.

Claim your confidence.

Once you start using the tools, systems, and exercises, trust in your systems and your expanding ability to concentrate. Start small and build on those successes. Modify your dosage of high-quality, pure cannabinoid products until you reach a dosage that supports your efforts to improve focus and attention.

Care for your body.

Get enough sleep and reduce unhealthy habits. Eat a well-balanced diet, decrease sugar intake, stay hydrated, and remove distractions like hunger or, equally distracting, overeating or sugar blues. Use safe, organic, targeted nutritional supplements that impact focus and attention like, fish oil, Ginkgo Biloba, Vitamin D, the B Vitamin series, and hemp cannabinoids like the widely known cannabinoid, CBD.

Prepare to focus.

Meet your needs for sleep, nutrition, hydration – and elimination, and then gather your materials before it’s time to focus. Water, a snack, your activity materials and a CBD product formulated for focus and attention nearby might help.

How does CBD help with focus and attention?

A CBD focus pill would solve a lot of issues with concentration*. Thankfully, full-spectrum cannabinoids (such as CBD) are available through a variety of delivery methods like sprays, mists, tinctures, lozenges, oils, balms, teas, gummies, or other food products, beverage infusions, and yes, even a pill!

The neuroprotective properties of cannabidiol CBD are documented in research studies and in clinical testimonials around the world.* Studies also suggest that CBD has positive effects on the rewiring of synapses in the brain, a critical component of acquiring new skills and habits, including focus and memory.* In short, hemp products that contain CBD
literally help the brain adapt as you learn new skills for concentration, focus, and attention.*

High-quality, pure cannabinoid products improve cognition, seem to protect neurons, and influence dopamine.* Dopamine (DA) is an important neurotransmitter that influences motivation, attention, mood, sleep, and learning, all essential components to support your efforts to increase concentration and focus. While more research is on the horizon, published studies find again and again that CBD has clearly shown anxiety-reducing, brain-soothing, and mood-supporting properties all of which are beneficial for attention.
